Junior Coaching Program

Children will never progress in sport unless they train in fundamental motor skills which include running, jumping and balance. Reception skills such as tracking the ball and hand eye coordination skills enable a young person to use their body in the most efficient manner. This includes using both sides of the body and the arms and legs in different ways and eventually enhances the development of the kinetic chain. Without proper professional training and attention to the kinetic chain, a young person will never fulfil their full potential in any sport. In Bishopstown we try to teach these skills in a fun and enthusiastic way at all times.

5 to 8 Year Olds:

The primary goals for all our 5 to 8 year olds are the ABCs of athleticism: running, jumping and throwing; and the ABCs of movement: agility, balance, coordination and speed.

9 to 12 Year Olds:

With our 9 to 12 year olds the emphasis is on general physical conditioning, fundamental technical skills and participation in complimentary sports with similar movement patterns and energy systems to that of tennis. We believe our novel approach of using music and fun props as teaching aids have greatly enhanced the teaching experience and learning environment and made tennis coaching more enjoyable for our students.

13 Years and Above:

With our older students we focus on the above and the development of a game style to suit the player’s needs, bringing in plyometrics and strength training to develop multi-talented tennis athletes.

Performance Coaching for all ages:

Our performance coaching environment is unique from anywhere else in the country. Our goal is to create an environment that is a mixture of hard work and fun. Our performnace environment has been created by our club coaches through their direct on court work with the players and also by the way in which they control and manipulate the rest of the players environment so that it constantly challenges the player and demands more of them. For the 2017/18 season we will be moving to a more data driven environment which we hope will cater for every players individualistic needs in a group environment.
